Use the brush to clean the group heads (the hot metal filter that transfers water to your cup). Be careful to clean everything thoroughly; coffee grounds accumulate over time, leaving behind rather bitter oils. These impart a bitter taste to your espresso.
STEAM WAND CLEANING
Keep the steam wand clean by wiping it immediately after each use with a damp cloth. This prevents milk from burning – and sticking. If not cleaned, the milk crusts over and forms bacteria. This is much harder to clean. If the steam wand is not cleaned over time, it damages the chrome-metal part.
NOTE: Do not clean the steam wand with hard metal products.

Keeping your espresso machine clean not only helps preserve the quality of the espresso but also prolongs the life of the machine. It is also beneficial to clean and wipe the steam wand after every use and to wipe the machine with a damp cloth after every brew.

Once a week (or more frequently depending on your usage), a more detailed cleaning should be performed. Now that the espresso machine is nice and clean, turn your attention to the portafilter and basket. First, you need to rinse and wipe the basket. Secondly, you should wash your portafilter and remove the basket. After doing this, take a cleaning cloth and thoroughly scrub the inside parts and spouts of the portafilter body. Do not use brushes on the basket, as you will enlarge the holes.

Find a large bowl to place these in and fill it with hot water. Add some of your cleaning detergent to the water and stir to dissolve. Refer to the instructions on your detergent for the correct dosage according to the volume of water; COFFE CLEAN recommends 1 tablespoon per litre of very hot water. Place your parts in the detergent water and allow them to soak for at least ½ an hour.
Note: It is forbidden to immerse the plastic, Bakelite, or rubber handle in water. Some handle materials can be damaged by the cleaner, and over time, all of them can rust and damage the inside of the handle.
After soaking, rinse all parts with clean water. If the portafilter spout is the open slot type, visually confirm that there is no oil; use a small round brush to clean it (brushes designed for cleaning baby bottle nipples are cheap and work well). Reassemble and it is ready to operate.
